Welcome to Genderblender, DA's club for Androgyny.

We are dusting off the inactive time and are going to be holding a themed art project. We were thinking of having a monthly theme for our members to muse over and if they wish, create some kind of art out of their inspiration.

3 popular ones are discussed are

1) "F*ck gender!"
2) "Free your mind in your androgyny"
3) "Gender is my toy".

Anyone have any thoughts on a themed project or more possible themes? The idea is to draw/write/challenge/explore the limits of the social construct of gender in a playful way, to show how inane, amusing or confining sexist sterotypes pervading our culture can be, and how you or your characters bend and break 'the rules' or make up their own! It wouldn't be a contest, just a chance to practice art of your choosing while improving skills in expressing a theme.

The club needs some more interaction!

THE BIG BLURB: What is Androgyny? Androgynous?
Pronunciation: an-'drä-je-ni

1 : Having the characteristics/nature of both male and female simultaneously.
2 : Hermaphroditsm (intersex), someone physically both male AND female.
3 : Neither specifically feminine nor masculine (genderless).
4 : Suitable to or for either sex (unisex).

This laidback club is for all people who appreciate/are interested in androgyny; hermaphroditism, intersex issues, the gender-neutral, and anyone who dislikes the rigid sexist stereotypes and binary gender prejudices of modern culture and art.

Despite the world being a so-called civilized place, gendervarient people still face prejudice, hate and misunderstanding. People who don't conform to antiquated, baseless, sexist stereotypes face persicution and ridicule, while millions of intersex people are rendered invisible due to an ignorant society that neither cares nor recognizes their plight. Be aware!

Androgyny isn't just women in ties or guys in skirts, it is a FAR deeper concept than that. There is a reason that throughout the ages many religions and philosophies around the globe have regarded spiritual androgyny as a key to enlightenment: it trancends the mundane and unites opposites, which is an interesting concept in itself.

Gender is a social construct. Sex is biological reality. Many people confuse these terms, but they are in fact very different. Both of these things come in more than two flavors ... It is biological fact that there exists a vast spectrum between the so called masculine and feminine polarities, with countless people scattered inbetween (or far beyond); either mentally, physically or both. One goal of this club is to spread awareness of this spectrum through artistic fun, stories, characters and other media. Be aware that this club has nothing to do with sexual orientation, it is concerned with gender/physiology/ideas of an androgynous, neutral or genderfree type. We are above all an art club, so submit, share and be creative!
